Former India opener Aakash Chopra has backed Team India to play the final of the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. His comments came right after India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat first at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
India entered the semifinal as the most dominant team in the competition. The Rohit Sharma-led side is the only unbeaten side in the competition as they won all of their nine league games. India thoroughly dominated all the opposition and registered heavy wins in most of their matches.
New Zealand, on the other hand, endured a mixed ride. The Black Caps began their campaign with four wins in a row. They thrashed England, Afghanistan, the Netherlands, and Bangladesh to prove their title credentials before four successive defeats threatened to derail their campaign. However, the Kane Williamson-led side beat Sri Lanka in their last league to advance to the semifinals.
Aakash Chopra’s prediction for Team India:
While only time will tell who makes it to the finals, Aakash Chopra believes Team India will advance to the title decider. Soon after Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first, he took to X to make his prediction and wrote:
“India has won the toss and decided to play the finals on the 19th 🤞🤞🤞”

India made a solid start with the bat after Rohit Sharma’s decision. The captain led from the very front once again and gave the team a flying start. He and Shubman Gill added 72 runs in just 50 balls for the first wicket. Tim Southee broke the stand by dismissing Rohit who scored 47 off 29 balls with the help of 4 fours and as many sixes. At the time of writing this report, India were on 150 for 1 after 20 overs with Gill and Virat Kohli in the middle. Gill was batting on 74 off just 57 balls while Kohli was on 26.
