Today’s ‘Wordle’ #879 Clues and Answer for Wednesday, November 15 Game

It’s been over two years since Wordle became an online phenomenon and the word puzzle game is still hugely popular.

Americans spend 12 minutes a day on average playing Wordle, according to a survey by WordFinder. Polling more than 1,000 users on their playing habits, Wordfinder discovered that Baby Boomers (1946 to 1964) play Wordle the most, while Generation Z (1997 to 2012) play the least.

The survey also revealed that 36 percent of American users play in hard mode. In fact, 12 percent think you’re cheating if you don’t.

Still, don’t feel too bad if you’re struggling, even creator Josh Wardle admits to struggling with the game. The New York-based software engineer formed a prototype for Wordle in 2013, before perfecting it in 2021 as a gift for his crossword-loving partner during lockdown.

In an interview with Newsweek in January 2022—when Wardle sold the game to The New York Times for a seven-figure sum—he said he’s “not really the best” Wordle player.

“[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning,” he told Newsweek.

“She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts.”

Although WordFinder’s respondents said they’d like to be able to solve more than one puzzle a day, Wardle purposefully designed Wordle so that fans wouldn’t get too addicted.

“I liked the idea that everyone around the world was trying to solve the exact same word at the exact same time,” he said.

“It created a shared communal experience [If] there were multiple puzzles to solve and everyone was at a different stage, then there wouldn’t be that kind of conversation, which I think is the most fulfilling part of Wordle.”
