BBL|13: Hamish McKenzie, Jason Behrendorff steer Perth Scorchers to emphatic win over Melbourne Stars

In a clash between Melbourne Stars and Perth Scorchers at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, the Scorchers delivered a commanding performance, securing an easy win against the home team.

Toss and Team Selection:

The Scorchers won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Stars, led by captain Marcus Stonis, had a formidable lineup featuring the likes of Sam Harper, Thomas Rogers and Hilton Cartwright. Perth Scorchers, under the leadership of Ashton Turner, showcased a balanced playing XI.

Melbourne Stars Innings:

The Stars faced a challenging outing as they posted a total of 101/10 in 19.1 overs. Cartwright’s 24 off 18 balls and Liam Dawson‘s contribution of 22 runs off 22 balls were notable, but the Stars struggled to build substantial partnerships. The  Scorchers’ bowling unit, led by Jason Behrendorff‘s impressive figures of 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs, kept the pressure on the Stars’ batting lineup.

Perth Scorchers Innings:

In response, the Scorchers displayed clinical batting to chase down the target, reaching 102/3 in just 13.5 overs. Stephen Eskinazi top-scored with 25 runs, while Cooper Connolly and Aaron Hardie contributed quickfire knocks of 20 runs each.

For the Stars, Joel Paris, Liam Dawson and Usama Mir picked up a wicket each. However, it was not enough to thwart the Scorchers’ determined chase.

Perth Scorchers registered a convincing 7-wicket victory, showcasing their dominance in both batting and bowling departments.

Hamish McKenzie‘s impactful bowling performance (4-0-12-2) earned him the Player of the Match award.
